Do it in the Terminal

Learn how to use the command line in Linux!

I'm an old school computer user—I remember using TRS-80 computers in school, where everything was the command line. And to be honest, I really like the command line, because once you get used to it, it's a lot more efficient.

Also, I'm not the world's greatest artist, so my zines have always been typeset on a computer. But this time, I wanted to do something that had more of a handmade look. (I also wanted something that would fit in an ordinary envelope!) The result is…Do it in the Terminal. (And yeah, there's a bit of a double entendre there.)

The first issue covers these commands:

• cp — copy files
• cat — concatenate files (and much more)
• ls — get a directory listing, but in a useful way
• mv — move files, but with options!
• mkdir — create a directory (or multiple directories)
• pwd — find out where you are
• rm — remove files and directories
• man — get help from the built-in manuals
