Make Your Own Zines!
My name is Ken, and I make zines.
I got involved with making zines ages ago, back in the days of Factsheet Five. That was decades ago.
If you want to make your own, there are lots of resources available. I keep bookmarking different things, so I finally figured that I should put them up on the web somewhere. (These aren't in any particular order, and a listing here implies neither endorsement nor condemnation.) Here we go…
- Zines on Reddit. From the description: “A subreddit for Zines: Underground, hand-made magazines!” This is not the most active community on Reddit, but there is always something interesting to look at. I have found a lot of cool zines here.
- Zinesters on Reddit. A smaller community than r/zines, but active.
- Zine Arranger! — A cool program that does the page imposition for you. (If you want to do this offline, pay the recommended $2.00 donation and download it.)
- How to make a zine from a single sheet of paper — by Austin Kleon. His entire site is pretty cool. Sign up for his mailing list! (Also, be sure to check out all his zines posts.
- Zine Crisis Mutual Assistance Group — Zinesters Helping Zinesters (Also, don't miss their Zine Idea Generator.
